Pichai Sundararajan was born on June 10, 1972, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India.[2] He grew up in Chennai, where his father worked as an electrical engineer and his mother as a stenographer.[3] Demonstrating strong academic aptitude, he earned a degree in metallurgical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.[4]
He later moved to the United States, completing an M.S. in materials science and engineering at Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was recognized as a Siebel Scholar and Palmer Scholar.[5]
Early Career
Before joining Google, Pichai worked at Applied Materials and later at McKinsey & Company, where he focused on management consulting and product development strategies.[6]

Pichai joined Google in 2004, initially contributing to the Google Toolbar and later leading the development of Google Chrome, which became one of the most widely used web browsers globally.[7] His role expanded to include oversight of key products such as Gmail, Google Maps, and Google Drive.[8]
