Early Life and Education

Sundar Pichai was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, in 1972 and grew up in Chennai.[1] He earned a degree in metallurgical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.[2] He later pursued a Master of Science in materials science and engineering at Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.[3]

Career at Google

Pichai joined Google in 2004, where he initially worked on the Google Toolbar and played a key role in the development of Google Chrome, which became one of the most widely used web browsers globally.[4] Over time, he led product management for several major Google services, including Chrome, Chrome OS, and Google Drive.[5]

In 2013, he took over the Android division, further expanding his influence within the company.[6]

Chief Executive Leadership

In August 2015, following a corporate restructuring that created Alphabet Inc. as Google’s parent company, Pichai was appointed CEO of Google.[7] His role included overseeing Google’s core internet businesses such as search, advertising, and YouTube.

In December 2019, he became CEO of Alphabet Inc., succeeding Larry Page, thereby taking responsibility for the broader portfolio of Alphabet companies.[8]
